Creating Topic Sign-Up Sheets in Canvas
Canvas does not have a specific tool that allows students to sign up for topics. However, you can use Canvas Collaborations to share an excel spreadsheet with your entire class or with groups within that class. You can list all the topic options in this spreadsheet and, since it's shared with all your students, allow them to sign up for topics. First-come, first-served.
To do this, click on "Collaborations" in course navigation, then click on the drop-down menu that says, "Collaborate Using." Select a Microsoft 365 document, and Canvas will then give you another menu where you will be able to share a word document, an excel spreadsheet, or a PowerPoint. We recommend the spreadsheet. Once you share this document with your class, students can pick topics. Here's a short video which shows how you can do that:
