Cross-listing a course involves merging one section of a course into another. It's not something that faculty at Lasell can do on their own. To cross-list a course, you need to contact TLC@lasell.edu, and we can do that for you.

For example, if you were teaching two sections of Writing 1, ENG101.A and ENG101.B, you might be using the exact same content for both courses. It would be painstaking to update both courses with the exact same content. Plus, when giving grades, you would have to flip from one course to another to type in grades. Cross-listing allows you to merge both sections into one Canvas course. This way, you only have to update one section (and manage one gradebook).

Differentiating Content in Merged Courses

Differentiating Content: If you cross-list, make sure you differentiate your content whenever necessary. For example, your syllabus should say something like, "ENG101, sections A and B." This way, students in section B won't open up the syllabus and assume they're in the wrong class.
Differentiating Due Dates: You might need to differentiate assignments or discussions by section. For example, if one section runs on Tues/Thurs and the other runs on Mon/Wed, you'll need to assign different due dates to each section. Filtering Gradebook by Section: Finally, you can sort your gradebook by section as well. You can learn more at How do I use the gradebook? Scroll down to where it says "Filter Students."
