Setting Up Notifications

By default, Canvas notifies your Lasell email address when course-related events happen. For example, if students send you a Canvas message, your Lasell email will be automatically notified. To set these up...

  1. Select Account in Canvas global navigation.
  2. Select Notifications in the sidebar that pops up.
  3. On the notifications page, you will see a list of Canvas activities. Check the appropriate mark for when you want to be notified about that activity:

Notification Options in Canvas

    • Check Mark: Immediate notification to your Lasell email
    • Clock: Daily Summary at the end of the day.
    • Calendar: Weekly summary at the end of the week, usually on Saturday between 7:00 am - 9:00 am (depending on time zone).
    • X Mark: Canvas will not notify you when this activity happens

For example:

  • If you use a lot of online discussions, you might ask for "Daily Summary." By default, Canvas notifies you of every discussion post. That's a lot. A single email at the end of the day might work better.
  • If you use weekly Announcements, you might ask for "Notify Immediately." By default, Canvas doesn't notify you about announcements you send. You might want a copy of those the moment they go out to remind you of what students have received and when.
